History of the Town

Traveling is my hobby – it truly broadens my mind. Santa Barbara is located on the Pacific Ocean that is my dream. The local population is the Chumash Indians, who came into contact with European civilization in 1542. Juan Cabrillo was the first who visited this marvelous land. 60 years later his grandsons repeated his visit. Their frigates were under a severe storm, but for the miraculous chance they were alive. It happened thanks to the bay and they called St. Barbara, now it is worldwide known as Santa Barbara.

Only in 1782 the Spaniards settled here permanently. They built a fort of El Presidio. Then, the Catholic mission was built here, which is the tenth in California. It is so beautiful that it is bestowed the title "Queen of Missions". Hispano-Moorish architecture is decorated with a magnificent look of Santa Barbara, and local authorities are really on the guide for new buildings. The first thing that surprise tourists is the lack of crowds in this fabulous location and many gardens. The first attraction is our hotel. In Santa Barbara there are about sixty hotels and motels. At the end of the last century this town could take more than ten thousand tourists, which made it possible to maintain its reputation as one of the finest resorts in California.

Santa Barbara is one of the top lines in the American rankings on the number of restaurants and cafes. It is the next attraction. Food and drinks are excellent in each of them surely. One can find here American, Californian, Italian, Marine, Japanese, Chinese and Thai veggie and French cuisine. Common people and naughty tourists traveling in California can be satisfied with good food in such a miraculous town. Gardens circle this town. Eating excellent food and admiring the sightseeing tourists one forgets about all his/her troubles. They are just having fun and excitement. We are eager to see other attractions.
